Baicalein is a naturally occurring flavonoid aglycone extracted from the dried root of Scutellaria baicalensis (Chinese skullcap) and other Scutellaria species.

It is one of the primary bioactive components of 황친 (黄芩), a well-known herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with a history of use for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antimicrobial properties.

Baicalein is the aglycone form of baicalin, meaning the sugar moiety is removed, resulting in enhanced bioavailability and biological activity compared to its glycoside counterpart (baicalin).
