Oxibendazole is a benzimidazole anthelmintic developed for veterinary use, particularly in the treatment of gastrointestinal nematodes in livestock and companion animals. The compound is structurally related to other benzimidazoles such as albendazole and fenbendazole, but features a propoxy group at the 5-position of the benzimidazole ring, which contributes to its distinct pharmacological profile.

As a member of the benzimidazole class, oxibendazole exerts its anthelmintic effect by binding to β-tubulin, disrupting microtubule formation in parasites. This leads to impaired glucose uptake and eventual death of the helminths. It is effective against a broad spectrum of nematodes, including large strongyles, small strongyles, pinworms, and ascarids.
