Từ đồng nghĩa: Modified Citrus Pectin, MCP, Low Methoxyl Pectin, Low Molecular Weight Citrus Pectin, Low Esterified Citrus Pectin, Modified Pectin, Galacturonic Acid Oligomers, Citrus Pectin Hydrolysate

Modified Citrus Pectin (MCP) is a low molecular weight, low esterification pectin derived from the peel of citrus fruits (primarily lemons, limes, and oranges) through controlled hydrolysis. Unlike conventional high molecular weight citrus pectin (typically 50,000–100,000 Da), MCP is processed to reduce its molecular weight to approximately 5,000–22,000 Da, enabling its absorption into the bloodstream and systemic bioavailability.

Standard citrus pectin is a complex polysaccharide rich in galacturonic acid, with a high degree of esterification, making it indigestible and largely confined to the gastrointestinal tract. The modification process reduces the molecular weight and degree of esterification, producing a pectin fragment that is soluble, absorbable, and capable of interacting with cell surface receptors.

MCP has been extensively studied for its ability to bind to galectin-3, a β-galactoside-binding lectin involved in inflammation, fibrosis, and cellular proliferation. By acting as a competitive inhibitor of galectin-3, MCP supports healthy cellular function, immune modulation, and heavy metal chelation. It has been the subject of clinical investigations in oncology, cardiovascular disease, and inflammatory conditions.

Chức năng

  1. Galectin-3 inhibition: MCP binds to galectin-3, a key protein affecting tumor growth and metastasis. Its linear long-chain structure allows rapid binding and blocking of galectin-3 after absorption into the blood.

  2. Chemotherapy sensitization: May improve sensitivity to chemotherapy drugs and reduce toxic side effects. Apoptosis-inducing activity of different MCP structures on MDA-MB-231 cells has been documented.

  3. Heavy metal chelation: Supports the elimination of toxic heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and arsenic, without affecting beneficial elements like iron, copper, and zinc.

  4. Blood sugar and lipid support: Accelerates cholesterol conversion and excretion, delays intestinal absorption of sugars and lipids, and activates sugar-metabolism-related enzymes, supporting healthy blood sugar, blood lipid, and kidney health.

  5. Skin health: Forms a protective film on the skin surface, retaining water and moisturizing. It also absorbs UV rays and reduces melanin formation, supporting a brighter complexion.

  6. Liver protection: Forms a protective film on the gastrointestinal wall to reduce alcohol absorption and activates internal alcohol-metabolizing enzymes, accelerating alcohol breakdown and supporting liver health.

  7. Gastrointestinal health: High water-holding capacity with more than 80% soluble dietary fiber, preventing dry stool, relieving constipation, and promoting gastrointestinal peristalsis.

Note: MCP’s immunity function cannot be claimed in the US.

Các câu hỏi thường gặp

Q: What is the difference between MCP and regular citrus pectin?
A: Regular citrus pectin has a high molecular weight (50,000–100,000 Da) and is not absorbed into the bloodstream. MCP is processed to a lower molecular weight (5,000–22,000 Da), allowing it to be absorbed and interact with galectin-3.

Q: How does MCP bind to galectin-3?
A: MCP contains galacturonic acid oligomers that bind to the carbohydrate recognition domain of galectin-3, blocking its interaction with other molecules and modulating its biological activity.

Q: What is the recommended dosage for heavy metal detoxification?
A: Clinical studies typically use 5–15 g per day, divided into 2–3 doses, taken away from meals.

Q: Is MCP safe for long-term use?
A: MCP is generally considered safe for long-term use. However, it may interfere with the absorption of certain medications, so consult a healthcare professional.

Q: Is MCP suitable for vegetarians and vegans?
A: Yes, MCP is plant-derived and suitable for vegetarian and vegan applications.
