This geometry results in a significant dipole moment (≈4.4 D), which explains its high solubility in polar solvents like water (up to 150 g/L at 20 °C) and its low solubility in nonpolar media. It has a melting point of 107–109 °C and boils at 238 °C, allowing for distillation if needed. The material is non-flammable and has a very low vapor pressure at ambient temperatures.
