Tea saponin, also known as tea saponin, is a type of glycoside compound extracted from tea tree seeds (tea seeds, tea leaves). It is a natural surfactant with good performance and can be widely used in light industry, chemical industry, pesticides, feed, aquaculture, textile, oil extraction, mining, building materials and highway construction.

What is Quillaja Extract?

Quillaja Extract is a natural, plant-derived surfactant and emulsifier obtained from the inner bark of the Soapbark tree (Quillaja saponaria), native to Chile and Peru. Its primary active components are triterpenoid saponins—amphiphilic molecules that reduce surface tension, stabilize emulsions, and create foam.

Why formulators choose Quillaja Extract:

  • Clean label positioning – natural alternative to synthetic surfactants (SLS, SLES, polysorbates)

  • Multi-functional – emulsifier, foaming agent, solubilizer, stabilizer

  • Compatible with organic and natural certifications (COSMOS, Ecocert, NSF)

  • Effective at low use levels (0.1–5.0% depending on application)

Key differentiator: Quillaja is one of the most powerful natural surfactants available—significantly more effective than soap nuts or yucca, and comparable to synthetic options in many applications.

Quillaia is the milled inner bark or small stems and branches of the soapbark (Quillaja saponaria, Molina).

Other names include Murillo bark extract, Panama bark extract, Quillaia extract, Quillay bark extract, and Soapbark extract.

Quillaia is a plant.

Garuda International’s Quillaja (quillaia) Extract Powder 100%, Food-Grade NP is an ingredient made from the concentrated purified extract of the outer cambium layer of the Quillaja Saponaria Molina tree, commonly identified as quillay bark, or soap bark, native to China.
Quillaia extract produced by LyvBio is a perfect raw material for use in foods, beverages, specialized confections, natural vegetable/fruit washes, soaps and shampoos.
Quillaia extract (E 999) is obtained by aqueous extraction of the milled inner bark or wood of Quillaja saponaria Molina, or other Quillaja species, trees of the family Rosaceae.
Quillaia extract contains a number of triterpenoid saponins consisting of glycosides of quillaic acid.
Sugars – including glucose, galactose, arabinose, xylose, and rhamnose – are also present, along with tannin, calcium oxalate and other minor components.
