Amoxicillin Sodium is the sodium salt form of amoxicillin, a broad-spectrum aminopenicillin antibiotic. Unlike the more common amoxicillin trihydrate, this sodium salt is highly water-soluble, making it the preferred choice for injectable formulations and other liquid applications where rapid dissolution and bioavailability are critical. Chemically, Amoxicillin Sodium is (2S,5R,6R)-6-[(R)-(-)-2-amino-2-(p-hydroxyphenyl)acetamido]-3,3-dimethyl-7-oxo-4-thia-1-azabicyclo[3.2.0]heptane-2-carboxylic acid sodium salt, with a molecular formula of C16H18N3NaO5S and a molecular weight of 387.39 g/mol. It is derived from the penicillin nucleus, 6-aminopenicillanic acid, and shares the typical beta-lactam structure responsible for its antibacterial activity.

Because of its improved solubility profile, Amoxicillin Sodium is widely used in parenteral preparations, often in combination with beta-lactamase inhibitors such as clavulanic acid. It is also employed in veterinary medicine and in research settings where a water-soluble form of amoxicillin is required. The compound is typically standardized to an assay of 95.0% to 102.0% (HPLC, calculated on anhydrous basis) and is available in sterile and non-sterile grades.
