Nannochloropsis is a genus of unicellular marine microalgae belonging to the class Eustigmatophyceae. It is widely cultivated for its rich content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), particularly eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) , and valuable pigments such as astaxanthin, canthaxanthin, y β-carotene. Nannochloropsis has emerged as one of the most promising sources of sustainable, plant‑based omega‑3 fatty acids and natural pigments.
