Cholic acid (CAS 81-25-4) is a primary bile acid that plays a structural role in fat emulsification and absorption. It is isolated from bovine or ovine bile and purified to ≥98% HPLC, appearing as a white to off-white crystalline powder. As a key intermediate in bile acid metabolism, cholic acid is used in the synthesis of ursodeoxycholic acid and other derivatives.
