Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)

Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol) is the naturally occurring form of vitamin D synthesized in the skin upon exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation and also obtained through dietary sources such as fatty fish, egg yolks, and fortified foods.
It is a fat-soluble secosteroid that functions as a prohormone, undergoing two sequential hydroxylation steps in the liver and kidney to produce the biologically active metabolite calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D).
Vitamin D3 is one of the most extensively studied and widely used nutritional ingredients, with established roles in skeletal health, immune modulation, and overall wellness.
It is available in various formats, including crystalline powder, oil-based solutions, and beadlet formulations, to accommodate diverse manufacturing requirements.

Function

  • Calcium homeostasis: Promotes intestinal calcium and phosphate absorption, supports bone mineralization.

  • Immune modulation: Regulates innate and adaptive immune responses via VDR signaling.

  • Cellular differentiation: Influences cell proliferation and differentiation in multiple tissues.

  • Muscle function: Contributes to muscle strength and neuromuscular coordination.

  • Fat-soluble: Requires lipid carriers for optimal absorption and formulation.
