Antrodia camphorata is a rare medicinal mushroom endemic to Taiwan, where it grows exclusively on the decaying heartwood of the endemic camphor tree (Cinnamomum kanehirae). It is known as Niu-Chang-Chih (牛樟芝) in Chinese and has been used in Taiwan for centuries as a traditional remedy for liver-related ailments, food poisoning, and general wellness.
Because wild Antrodia camphorata is extremely rare and slow-growing, commercial extracts are produced through submerged fermentation of the mycelium or solid-state cultivation. These methods produce a fungal biomass with a bioactive profile comparable to the wild fruiting body.
The primary bioactive components are:
Triterpenoids (Antcin A, B, C, K, and related compounds): Hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant.
Polysaccharides (β-glucans): Immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory.
Ergosterol: Sterol with antioxidant properties.
Antrodia camphorata has been the subject of extensive pharmacological research, particularly for its hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and immunomodulatory activities. It is widely used in dietary supplements and functional foods in Taiwan and increasingly in international markets.

Antrodia camphorata
出典: Mycelium (submerged fermentation) or solid-state cultivated fruiting bodies of Antrodia camphorata
Extraction: Hot water extraction (for polysaccharides), ethanol extraction (for triterpenoids), or dual extraction
Hepatoprotective activity: Supports liver function, reduces liver damage markers.
Anti-inflammatory activity: Modulates inflammatory pathways (NF-κB, COX-2).
Immunomodulation: Polysaccharides activate macrophages and NK cells.
Antioxidant activity: Triterpenoids and polysaccharides scavenge free radicals.
Anti-fatigue activity: Enhances energy metabolism and physical stamina.
Cardiovascular support: Supports healthy lipid profiles and endothelial function.
