Aescin Structure

Sinonimi: Escin, β-Aescin, Aesculus hippocastanum extract, Horse chestnut seed extract, Sodium aescinate, Escin sodium, Aescin from horse chestnut

Pharmaceutical and cosmetic manufacturers buy aescin for its reliable anti-inflammatory and venotonic action, which is difficult to match with synthetic alternatives. It goes into oral capsules and tablets for chronic venous insufficiency, topical gels and creams for sports injuries and bruising, and injectable formulations in some markets. The ingredient also appears in after-sun and eye-care products where reduced capillary permeability is the goal.

Aescin is a mixture of triterpene saponins extracted from the seeds of Aesculus hippocastanum, the horse chestnut tree. We supply it as a white to off-white powder, standardized to at least 95% total escin by HPLC. The material is produced under GMP conditions and is available in non-sterile grade suitable for oral and topical use.

When ordering, confirm the assay method and the ratio of escin Ia to escin Ib if your formulation is sensitive to the saponin profile. We provide a sample for bench work before bulk commitment, and the commercial scale follows the same specification.

Grade & Supply Forms

Our standard grade is pharmaceutical intermediate quality, with an assay of 95% or higher by HPLC. It is a fine, free-flowing powder that dissolves readily in water and ethanol, which makes it straightforward to incorporate into both aqueous and hydroalcoholic systems. For topical gels, the powder can be dispersed directly into the water phase; for capsules, it blends well with common excipients without caking.

We also stock a lower-assay grade for cosmetic use where a 20% or 50% extract is sufficient. Both grades are derived from the same extraction and purification process, and the choice depends on your target dosage and cost per unit.

Applications & Formulation Use

In oral solid dosage, aescin is formulated into capsules and tablets, often combined with flavonoids such as diosmin or hesperidin for venous tone. Typical daily doses range from 40 to 120 mg of escin, split into two or three administrations. The powder compresses well and shows good stability in standard blister packaging.

Topical products include gels, creams, and roll-ons for bruising, swelling, and mild sports injuries. Here aescin is used at 1–2% in the finished formulation, and its water solubility allows clear gels to be produced. In cosmetics, it is added to eye contour and anti-redness products at lower concentrations, where it helps reduce the appearance of puffiness and dark circles.
