Selamectin is a semi-synthetic avermectin derivative developed by Pfizer for veterinary parasitology. It belongs to the macrocyclic lactone class and is structurally related to ivermectin, but with a unique cyclohexyl substitution and a hydroxyimino group at the 5-position. This modification enhances its spectrum of activity and duration of effect, making it a mainstay in companion animal medicine.

First approved in 1999 under the trade name Revolution, Selamectin is a topical endectocide effective against a broad range of internal and external parasites in dogs and cats, including fleas, ticks, ear mites, sarcoptic mange, and heartworm. Its mechanism involves binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels, leading to paralysis and death of parasites. The compound is also used in research on anthelmintic resistance and neuropharmacology.

As a high-purity active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), Selamectin is supplied with a typical assay ≥98.0% (HPLC). It appears as a white to off-white crystalline powder, soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and DMSO but practically insoluble in water. • Ovicidal and larvicidal: Disrupts egg hatching and larval development, reducing environmental contamination.
