Pine Bark Extract OPC 95% (Proanthocyanidins)

Pine Bark Extract is a standardized botanical concentrate derived from the inner bark of Pinus pinaster (maritime pine), Pinus massoniana, or other suitable pine species. It is rich in oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC), a class of bioflavonoid compounds consisting of monomeric, dimeric, and oligomeric flavan-3-ols. These compounds are characterized by their high degree of polymerization and potent free radical scavenging activity.

The OPC content at ≥95% represents one of the highest purity grades available in the botanical extract market. Proanthocyanidins are distinguished from other flavonoids by their ability to bind and cross-link proteins, which underpins their unique bioactivities, including collagen stabilization, capillary integrity enhancement, and enzyme inhibition (e.g., elastase and hyaluronidase).

Pine Bark Extract OPC 95%

Pine bark extract is one of the most thoroughly studied botanical ingredients, with decades of clinical and pharmacological research supporting its use in cardiovascular health, skin health, joint support, and cognitive function applications.

Function

  • Potent antioxidant activity: OPC exhibits strong free radical scavenging capacity, particularly against peroxyl radicals and superoxide anions.

  • Collagen stabilization: Cross-links with collagen and elastin, supporting vascular integrity and dermal structure.

  • Vascular support: Enhances microcirculation, capillary permeability, and venous tone.

  • Anti-inflammatory activity: Modulates the arachidonic acid cascade and COX/LOX pathways.

  • Enzyme inhibition: Inhibits matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), elastase, and hyaluronidase.

Source & Standardization

  • Source: Inner bark of Pinus pinaster / Pinus massoniana

  • Standardization: OPC ≥95% (determined by UV-Vis spectrophotometry)

  • Additional markers: Polyphenols ≥95%, monomeric content may vary by batch
