What is Vitamin B6?

Vitamin B6 is also known as the “anti dermatitis vitamin”. One of the B vitamins. Belonging to pyridine derivatives, including pyridoxine, pyridoxal, and pyridoxamine, they exist in food in a form that can be converted into each other. But the vitamin B6 in plants is mostly pyridoxine, while in humans and animals, it is mostly pyridoxal and pyridoxamine. Human intestinal bacteria can also synthesize pyridoxine, which can be converted into pyridoxal and pyridoxamine in the human body, while the latter two cannot be converted into pyridoxine. The three have the same physiological activity.

Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin essential for over 140 enzymatic reactions, primarily in amino acid, carbohydrate, and lipid metabolism. The hydrochloride salt (Pyridoxine HCl) is the standard commercial form due to its stability and bioavailability.

Other forms: Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P-5-P) – the active coenzyme form (higher cost, premium positioning).

indication

(1) Suitable for the treatment of vitamin B6 deficiency (vitamin B6 deficiency can cause xanthine aciduria, sideroblastic anemia,
neurological disorders, seborrheic dermatitis, and dry lips), treating isoniazid poisoning;
It can also be used for vomiting and seborrheic dermatitis caused by pregnancy, radiation sickness, and anticancer drugs.
(2) Supplementation of vitamin B6 for parenteral nutrition, malnutrition caused by insufficient intake, and progressive weight loss.
(3) Treat infantile convulsions or administer medication to pregnant women to prevent infantile convulsions.
(4) Leukopenia

Mechanism of Action

Function Role
Amino acid metabolism Transamination, decarboxylation, racemization
Neurotransmitter synthesis Dopamine, serotonin, GABA, noradrenaline
Hemoglobin production Heme synthesis (rate-limiting cofactor)
Homocysteine metabolism Conversion to cysteine (with B9/B12)
Immune function Lymphocyte differentiation

Key clinical marker: B6 supplementation reduces plasma homocysteine (cardiovascular risk factor).

  • Hygroscopic – requires low-humidity manufacturing

  • pH stability: Stable in acidic conditions (pH 2–6); degrades in alkaline (pH > 7)

  • Compatible with most vitamins/minerals except strong oxidizers (iron, copper with prolonged storage)

Shelf life: 36 months (original sealed container, ambient temperature, protected from moisture)

FAQs for B2B Buyers

Q: Pyridoxine HCl vs. P-5-P – which should I use?
A: Pyridoxine HCl is standard for most applications (cost-effective, stable, well-absorbed). P-5-P is the active form, requiring no hepatic conversion – suitable for liver-compromised populations or premium positioning (3–5x higher cost).

Q: Optimal particle size for gummy formulations?
A: Micronized (D90 < 50 µm) ensures homogeneous distribution and no grittiness.

Q: Is Vitamin B6 stable in liquid formulations?
A: Marginally stable in aqueous solutions (degrades over time). For liquids, consider P-5-P or use dry forms (stick packs, sachets).

Q: Can Vitamin B6 be combined with iron?
A: Yes, but avoid prolonged high-temperature storage. For long shelf-life products, consider separate compartments or overage (5–10% excess).

Q: MOQ?
A: Samples: 100g–1kg. Trial: 25 kg. Bulk: Negotiable. Lead time: 3–5 days (samples); 10–15 days (bulk).
